Hello Dillon, MT

June 9

We left Provo about 9 am, got on the I15 & continued north through all the construction.  The day started out sunny, but after a couple of hours, clouds appeared.  Just south of Ogden we started getting a little rain here & there.  After we crossed in Idaho, we got more intense rain in areas.  We were going to spend the night in Idaho Falls, but we had gotten there sooner than anticipated & decided to drive the additional 145 miles to Dillon.  As we crossed in Montana we drove through larger areas of more intense rain.  We began to see swollen rivers & lots of water lying in fields.  The day has been full of different landscapes & the storm clouds added a dimension to the scenery.  We were so grateful that the rain stopped while we checked into the campground & got set up.  Within 10 minutes of setting up, here came some more rain.    Southside RV Park is located on two sides of a small river.  That river is sooooo full of muddy, racing water.  Again, spring hasn’t totally arrived here, so the flowers they normally have out in planters around the campground haven’t been put out yet.  The grounds are immaculate.  The sites are very level.  The grassy areas are a rich green (everything is from all the rain) & mowed.  The trees are carefully pruned and it just looks pretty & cared for.  It has the nicest laundry room I’ve ever seen.  The owners live on premise and want to have happy campers.  Very cordial & helpful.

I thought we all were hoping we were normal.  I have no idea what that Salt Lake City billboard means. I guess I’ll google bioidentical hormones & see what I’m missing.

The beginning of the storms we will be in as the day progresses.

Sights seldom seen in southern California.

The same outfit advertising the bioidentical hormones had this sassy sign as we spotted as we approached Ogden.  I laughed at the woman pictured with a bag over her head. At least I know what tattoo removal is.

Above: We were lovin’ these gas prices.                    Right: An elderly gent was wearing this t-shirt.  Got a good laugh out of it while we waited for him to finish pumping his gasoline..

The sky is looking quite ready to dump a bunch of rain. We caught a little of this.

Right & Below: We’re in very northern Utah. The views were BIG and awfully nice.  It is so hard to get a camera to show BIG.

The next few pictures are of Idaho as seen from the I15 corridor.  Note the lack of traffic. Finally away from large towns & cities.  Here, the word ‘relax’ has meaning.

The Snake River appears to be at or slightly above flood stage.

In the foreground is land prepped for planting.  In the background, those grain silos are about 40 ft tall.  The famous Budweiser Clydesdales are featured on this advertising sign. We had been looking at nothing but land under cultivation, a few herds of animals & maybe a farmhouse or two.  This was almost like driving in the desert & Vegas appears. Quite a sight.

The spots on the window are...surprise!...rain.  As we crossed the state line & the Continental Divide at the same moment, we knew our journery was about 100 miles from its end.

We’re about to cross Beaverhead River.  It’s running high as all waterways are that we’ve seen.

Right & Below: Some of the scenery we passed on our way to Dillon, MT. Once again, notice the lack of traffic.  Love it!

June 10

Today we shopped.  We went to two sort-of general merchandise stores, not quite  dollar stores but fun to shop in anyway.  On to the Ace Hardware store where Gary dallies over things like quick-connect hose connectors & pulley-clips, pvc pipe & goodness knows what else.  We then went to the gun shop so Gary could replace his pellet rifle.  We shoot varmints invading our yard at home.  Gary has worn out his pellet rifle after 20 years of shooting gophers, etc.  The new one is on order & it made us feel like we were part of the hunter-locals that live here.  That gun shop is one busy place!  Anyway, everyone is friendly & the town looks interesting & we’re gonna check out more of it tomorrow.  There are about 4,100 people living in Dillon, so there are all the services for them & the surrounding ranches.  The big box stores are many miles away.  Gary is going to try to fish in a spot the locals are using.  But, we’ll wait until after the weekend & see what happens.  I was taking a short, brisk walk to the trash cans & upon returning to the coach, I was totally winded.  Discovered we are at 5,100 ft. altitude.  Close to mile high.  No wonder I was winded!  Me, who lives at 600 ft. altitude.  As I write this, it is late afternoon.  The clouds have been sneaking up on us & I can see two places off in the distance that are getting hammered with heavy rain.  And it’s coming our way. Dillon averages 2 inches of rain in June.  They have already exceeded that number.

Here we are tucked in the trees at Southside RV Park. The rushing, muddy water is racing by.  We’ve been keeping an eye on it as it is up to its banks.  There are 3 ducks that race by on the current, then make their way back to do it again.  There is also a muskrat who entertains us with his antics. This campground is one of the nicest we’ve stayed in. Nice views, level sites, good reception on our broadband and ever so clean.

The view from our front window.  Looks like we’re going to get wet.
